Mom & Daughter Excursion

Today my daughter and I hung out, bonded and enjoyed each other's company as we tested the Sushi waters. This was a really big deal for us. To give you an idea of how big, I'll have to tell you guys where we are from . THE SOUTH!
In the South, I never found Sushi to be a delicacy but here it can definitely be seen as such. Ever since the day we moved here to San Diego, my oldest daughter has been begging me to take her to try out Sushi. Well, needless to say, as a busy mommy things just kept getting in the way of us making the time to go. She is on her first week of being out of school for the summer so instead of making her clean and do chores right away I decided that I would take her to the place she's been so excited about going to. The spot we visited was called Oki Ton Japanese Bistro / Sushi.

The outside patio was covered to protect customers from the sun. Underneath it were bamboo sticks which were strategically placed along the brick walls. There were excotic looking plants and a neat little water fountain which gave off the sound of tranquility in the room. It was very inviting.

I love the style of the lights and the variety of items there to choose from on the menu.

This is a quick snap shot of what the area looks like across the street from the Sushi Bar. Even though it was near a Lowes and a CostCo, the area was still quite charming .

Okay so here is what we had. My sushi is on the right and hers is to the left. She had the California Spicy Tuna Roll and I had the California Snow Crab Roll. It's so funny because when the waitress was helping us decide what to get we came to the conclusion that the spicy tuna dish might be good for my daughter and the other might be best for me. (indecisive first-timers)
She was soooooo nervous! Teehee...I let her be the first taste tester for each item. lol SHAME ON ME!

Mmmmm....this was our dessert. I don't even remember the name I tell ya! I do know that is was something along the lines of Banana Bread Pudding. It had raisins, cinammon and caramel in it. DELISH!
The sushi dishes we each chose worked out PERFECT for us. I couldn't really eat my daughter's dish but I loved mine and the same went for her. Here I was trying to eat with chopsticks. I've never been able to do that but I was determined. Get this...I didn't even ask for a fork. I told her to keep them. HA!

My daughter in the outside Patio. She FINALLY got her sushi:-)

The Banana dessert topped with whipped cream.

And here I am with our FABULOUS waitress Katelynn. She showed so much class and gave us so much information to help us make our decision. We really enjoyed ourselves at the Sushi Bar.
So would I dine at this place again?  Yes I would but next time it will be for some FRIED shrimp tempura!

  3. Kiki! You and April are such amazing beautiful women. It warms this mother's heart to see you enjoying such a warm and memorable time with your precious daughter. Great of you to try something new (and scary?) with her.

I had sushi for the first time with my oldest daughter, too. She loves it. I'm not a huge fan. We had fun, though. Next time, I'll go with the tempura.... : D

    You rock.
