We Are Not Our Wear

I have to agree with him on this one. On yesterday, the Dalai Lama gave a little advice for women that so many of us REALLY already know yet don’t live by it. He said, “Making your face is good, but  in the meantime you must pay more attention about your inner beauty.” I had been meaning to do a blog post on a topic similar to this but never got around to it and when I saw his statement it prompted me to.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with being cautious of how we as women present ourselves on a daily basis. However, EVERYTHING is wrong when we find ourselves exerting so much energy on what we look like and what designer brands we wear rather than how we dress our hearts. It seems like some people forget that what we look like on the outside is so fragile compared to what we wear on the inside. To have that perfect shade of lipstick that compliments our skin tone…to have the jewelry that says, “I’m sweet” , “I’m edgy”, or “I’m refined”…to have a pair shoes that stops the masses and commands attention…to have a fit that screams Ooo lah la in the eyes of ALL beholders; yeah those things can only take you so far. It’s an element of what some would call, hollow excitement.

When we focus on our inner beauty, we are equipping ourselves with the essence of the things that really matter in life. We should try to love and not just be loved. We can choose to be compassionate rather than hardhearted; be absent of negativity. Ever heard of the saying  beauty is only skin deep but ugly goes clear to the bone? We must nourish our souls daily with praiseworthy subtance so that we exude grace, ooze love and bear the mark of true beauty.

Remember “Outer show is a poor substitute for inner worth”. Aesop
Peace and Love:)

  1. Reminds me of a verse I have hidden in my heart:

    Proverbs 31:30
    New Living Translation (NLT)
    30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last;
    but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.
